Man Caught 'Driving Without A Steering Wheel'

A South Australian man is facing charges after he was allegedly caught driving a car without a steering wheel — with just vice grips clamped to the part where the wheel should have been for control.

Police said they pulled over the white Holden in the Adelaide suburb of Gilles Plains after they spotted it driving dangerously with two blown tyres, ABC Online reports.

When officers peered in the window they saw the car allegedly had no steering wheel and the 38-year-old driver was using a pair of vice grips to steer.

When police ran a check on the vehicle they found it was unregistered, uninsured and subject to a defect notice.

It was also allegedly involved in a crash with another vehicle just moments before it was stopped.

The driver from the suburb of Northfield is facing charges of driving while disqualified and returning a positive drug test.

APC won Offa rerun, says PDP candidate

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) councillorship candidate in last Saturday’s rerun in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, Afolabi Jimoh, has confessed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate won in his ward.
Jimoh was declared the winner by the State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC).
The APC has urged President Goodluck Jonathan; the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Abubakar and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega, to prevail on KWSIEC to release the authentic result of the rerun.
Jimoh, who contested the Shawo Southwest Offa seat, said KWSIEC was in error to have declared him the winner.

What's the evidence of Syrian chemical weapons attack?

(CNN) -- U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry calls it proof "beyond any reasonable doubt." Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says it's "very clear."
President Barack Obama says the United States has "high confidence" that Syria used chemical weapons -- the strongest position the U.S. can take short of confirmation.
Britain, France, and Germany say their intelligence backs up the same conclusion.
But despite all the talk about conclusive intelligence, questions remain. A declassified report by the White House does not divulge all details of the evidence the United States is looking at. And it remains unclear what the "streams of intelligence" cited in the report may be and how they were collected.
Russia insists there's no proof. Russian President Vladimir Putin said he wants to see evidence that would make the determination "obvious."
Syria: Searching for solutions
Kerry: Riskier to not act against Syria
Hagel: 'U.S. forces ready to act'
And Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime says rebel forces were behind any chemical weapons attack.
The United Nations, meanwhile, is calling on world leaders to wait for the results of a U.N. probe.
Here's a look at what is known about the intelligence Washington points to.

PDP crisis: Jonathan rejects Obasanjo’s peace mission

There were strong indications last night that President Goodluck Jonathan may call the bluff of the seven aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Dr. Jonathan, who reportedly got angry at a meeting with PDP governors loyal to him on Tuesday night, asked them not to lose sleep over the party’s crisis.
It was also learnt that some forces in the Presidency are viewing with suspicion the peace moves initiated by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo because the aggrieved governors are seen as his “die-hard” loyalists.
The peace meeting called by the ex-President is scheduled for tomorrow in Abuja.
The President is said to have rejected Obasanjo’s peace moves.
