Messi pays €5 million in tax fraud case

Lionel Messi and his father have paid €5 million to Spanish authorities as part of an investigation into alleged tax fraud, a court statement has revealed.

The Barcelona star was accused of "hiding" more than €4m earlier this year having failed to file complete tax returns between 2006 and 2009, although both the 26-year-old and Messi Snr. denied all wrongdoing.

APC won Offa rerun, says PDP candidate

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) councillorship candidate in last Saturday’s rerun in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, Afolabi Jimoh, has confessed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate won in his ward.

Jimoh was declared the winner by the State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC).

The APC has urged President Goodluck Jonathan; the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Abubakar and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega, to prevail on KWSIEC to release the authentic result of the rerun.

Jimoh, who contested the Shawo Southwest Offa seat, said KWSIEC was in error to have declared him the winner.
